April 13 -16 2010: Manuel Charlemagne (CSI) attended ASIACS 2010 in China. While there he presented an article entitled: A new identity based encryption scheme based on dhies. This article is joint work with Yu Chen, Zhi Guan, Jianbin Hu, & Zhong Chen from Peking University, China.

Gary McGuire and Faruk Gologlu submitted a proposal to the European Science Foundation for a workshop on APN Functions, to be hosted by the Claude Shannon Institute and CASL.

Our national competition coinciding with the birthday of Claude Shannon closed and a “Happy Birthday Claude” birthday party was held at UCD CASL where the winners of our primary school competition were drawn. (All primary schools in Ireland were posted a Happy Birthday Claude! Poster in March. The competition targeted 3rd Class students and its purpose was to teach the children about Claude Shannon. Thousands of replies from children all over the country were received.

April 26-28 2010: Jean-Guillaume Dumas (CSI) visited Grenoble, France for the PhD defense of his student Anna Urbanska-Marszalek entitled "Adaptive and Hybrid algorithms for exact linear algebra".

April 27 2010: Cathy McFadden (CSI) presented a poster entitled “Weights on Rings and the Extension Theorem” at the 1st Irish Women in Mathematics Day at the University of Limerick.
