September 2008: New Members at CSI
Six new post-graduate students and three new post-docs have joined the Claude Shannon Institute.
David Conti (UCD) began his doctoral studies at CSI. His supervisor is Nigel Boston and he is located at University College Dublin.
Mark Hamilton (UCC) began his doctoral studies at CSI. His supervisor is Liam Marnane and he is located at University College Dublin.
Danny Lynch (UCD) began his doctoral studies at CSI. His supervisor is Rod Gow and he is located at University College Dublin.
Vijaykumar Singh (UCD) began his doctoral studies at CSI. His supervisor is Gary McGuire and he is located at University College Dublin.
Alison Sneyd (UCD) began her doctoral studies at CSI. Her supervisor is Eimear Byrne and he is located at University College Dublin.

September 1-3 2008: Luis Dominguez (CSI), Ezekiel Kachisa (CSI) and Mike Scott (CSI) attended the second International Conference on Pairing-based Cryptography (Pairing 2008) held at Royal Holloway, University of London in UK.

Leading international researcher Prof. Nigel Boston joins CSI
August 29 2008: Leading international researcher Professor Nigel Boston joins the Claude Shannon Institute, the UCD Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL) and UCD School of Mathematical Sciences under the SFI Stokes Programme. Professor Boston was previously located at the University of Wisconsin where he held joint appointments in Mathematics and in Electrical and Computer Engineering. While at the University of Wisconsin, Professor Boston worked in the areas of pure algebra and number theory, related to the famous proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, and he also collaborated with engineers and computer scientists on novel applications of algebra in areas such as automated face recognition and sensor networks. "I will continue this work at UCD by building an international program in number theory and pursuing interdisciplinary collaborations through the Claude Shannon Institute and CASL," says Professor Boston. Rod Gow (CSI) co-organized conference on "Duality theory and involutions in representation theory”
August 19-22 2008: Rod Gow (CSI) was co-organizer of a conference at NUI Maynooth, entitled "Duality theory and involutions in representation theory”. There were about 40 people in attendance, from countries such as Germany, Spain, UK, USA, Romania and Japan.
