April 26-30 2009: Luis Julian Dominguez Perez (CSI) and Naomi Benger (CSI) attended Eurocrypt 2009 (the 28th Annual International Conference on the Theory and Applications of Cryptographic Techniques) in Cologne, Germany.
On April 29 2009 Luis Julian Dominguez Perez attended the Ecrypt 2, Vampire, Certicom challenge meeting.

April 16th & 17th 2009: Marcus Greferath (CSI) visited the University of Aachen to participate in a meeting regarding the founding of a centre of interdisciplinary research in portable nuclear magnetic resonance. He also continued to perform scientific measurements with his Aachen chemistry partner Prof. Bernhard Bluemich.

The deadline for submissions for giving a talk at Fq9, the Finite Fields conference to be hosted by CSI in July, is May 1, so many abstracts were received in April.

The Claude Shannon Institute national primary school competition, coinciding with the birthday of Claude Shannon, closed with thousands of entries received. All primary schools in Ireland were posted a Happy Birthday Claude! poster. The competition targeted 3rd Class primary school students and its purpose was to teach the children about Claude Shannon. April 6-9 2009: Rod Gow (CSI), Marcus Greferath (CSI) Nigel Boston (CSI), Eimear Byrne (CSI) and Gary McGuire (CSI) attended BMC 2009/IMS; (Joint Meeting of the 61st British Mathematical Colloquium and the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Irish Mathematical Society) at the National University of Ireland Galway.
On Monday April 6 2009 Rod Gow gave a History of Mathematics Lecture entitled: "From George Salmon and 27 lines to octonions, E_6 and beyond".
On Tuesday April 7 2009 Marcus Greferath participated in the splinter group on Ring and Module theory. He gave a talk entitled: "Monomial extension of isometries between ring-linear codes".
On Wednesday April 8 2009 Gary McGuire gave a talk at the British Mathematical Colloquium entitled: "Some computational algebra in cryptography".
On Wednesday April 8 2009 Eimear Byrne (CSI) gave a talk entitled ''Measuring Optimality of Codes Over Finite Rings''.

March 30 – April 3 2009: Gary McGuire (CSI) and Alexey Zaytsev (CSI) attended AGCT-12 at CIRM in Luminy, France. On April 2 2009 Gary McGuire gave a talk at entitled "Construction of genus 2 curves with p-rank 1 by the CM method."

April 1st 2009: Tom Dowling (CSI) attended the NUIM Connect 2009 - Commercialisation Conference.

March 31st 2009: Nigel Boston (CSI) gave a talk at Fritz Grunewald's 60th Birthday Conference, Oxford, UK entitled "Random pro-p groups and random Galois groups".
